Translate with Excel files

Redokun allows you to export your text from your InDesign file to an Excel or XLIFF file, which you can send to translation. When the Excel/XLIFF file is translated you can import it back into Redokun and download the translated InDesign document.

Step-by-step guide

1. Upload your InDesign document in IDML file format. Visit this page to see how to export an IDML file from Adobe InDesign.

2. Choose the source language.

4. Choose "(me)" as a translator.

5. Export all the phrases (or segment) from the InDesign file in a Microsoft Excel file, by clicking on the "down" arrow.

You can fill the translation column with past translations by flagging the relative flag. Excel cells with translations automatically imported from past work are marked with a yellow background.

 

6. Edit the exported XLSX (Excel) file and enter the translated phrases in the third column (column C).

7. Click on the "up" arrow to import the Excel file into Redokun.

8. After the import, you'll be presented with a guided upload wizard and you will have the opportunity to see which phrases are being imported.

9. Confirm the translation and download the translated IDML file with the same styles and layout as the original file.

To separate and preserve style changes or special characters Redokun uses tags (Link) and markers (Link). If the source language contains tags, then you should place each tag in the translated phrase.
