Text segmentation, Tags and Markers

Text segmentation and wrapping

Redokun creates a new segment any time it found a hard-return or a tabulation. So, if you need to wrap your text please consider the use of the soft-return character (shift + return). With the soft-return, Redokun creates a single segment and shows the translator where the text has been wrapped.

Here is the definition of soft-return from Wikipedia:
A soft return or soft wrap is the break resulting from line wrap or word wrap (whether automatic or manual), whereas a hard return or hard wrap is an intentional break, creating a new paragraph. Soft wrapping allows line lengths to adjust automatically with adjustments to the width of the user's window or margin settings. [...] Manual soft breaks are unnecessary when word wrap is done automatically, so hitting the "Enter" key usually produces a hard return.

In InDesign, you can easily recognise a hard-return from a soft-return:

Wrapping using hard-return: Wrapping using hard-return
Wrapping using soft-return: Wrapping using soft-return

Tags

Tags are used by Redokun to separate and preserve the same style while translating a paragraph with style changes in it. If the source language contains tags, then you should input each tag in the translated phrase. Redokun checks for tags presence while translating or importing the translated sentences through Microsoft Excel or OpenDocument file.

Tags and Markers example

If you're using the Web Editor, you can insert tags and markers very easily, with the TAB key.
You can read more here.

Markers

Markers are used to ease the usage of special characters. There are two types of markers: InDesign control markers and Special chars markers.
Generally, you won't have to input additional markers, but just keep the ones present in the original phrase. Note that, as opposed to tags, the presence of markers in the translated phrase is not enforced by Redokun.
